Shadow Pine cabin reading nook by the forest window

I didn't set out to build a rental. I set out to build the place I kept wishing existed — somewhere I could disappear into the woods and actually feel it. Shadow Pine is that place, and now I get to share it.

The best of being out in nature — without giving up comfort

What I wanted was the whole experience of the forest: the sound of a thunderstorm rolling across the ridge at night, the slow surprise of a deer stepping into the clearing at dawn, ten private acres of Tennessee quiet. But I didn't want to rough it. I wanted to take all of that in from a genuinely comfortable bed — California Design Den linens, a wood-burning fireplace going, a pour of one of my favorite Tennessee whiskeys in hand. Nature and comfort aren't opposites here. Shadow Pine is built to give you both at once.

An old-world, tactile escape

The real idea behind Shadow Pine is sensory. We've gotten so used to everything happening through a screen that we've forgotten how good it feels to do things with our hands. So I filled the cabin with the analog version of a good evening:

  • A record player and a stack of vinyl — pick a record, drop the needle, and let it play all the way through.
  • Incense and candlelight — the cabin should smell and glow like somewhere you slow down.
  • An easel and an art set — paint the trees, or just make something for the joy of it.
  • A writing desk with a quill and ink — actually write. Not type. There's a particular quiet that comes over people when they sit down and write something by hand.
  • A greenhouse lounge and a gardening bar — tend something green at blue hour.
  • A small bar for a slow cocktail — or that whiskey, by the fire, with nowhere to be.

None of it is for show. It's all there to be used. The whole point is to give your attention back to you for a few days.

Mornings, afternoons, evenings

Mornings start with coffee made by hand on premium Fellow gear, locally roasted, taken slow. Afternoons are for the easel, the greenhouse, a book, or simply sitting still in the woods. And evenings settle in by the wood-burning fireplace as the record spins and the light goes from gold to blue to dark — really dark, the kind of dark where the stars come out.

The cabin I'd want to come back to

Shadow Pine sits on ten private wooded acres, about ten minutes from Big South Fork and fifteen from Oneida. It's designed for couples, honeymooners, writers, artists — anyone who needs to step out of the noise and remember what their own thoughts sound like. I built the getaway I always wanted. I hope it becomes yours, too.
